Proud Of Our Region,
The Towns & People In It

Jumping Branch is in the west-central part of the county, just west of Hinton, the hub city. Summers County, in the southeastern corner of West Virginia, dates back to 1871 when it was formed from parts of three existing counties.  In 1880, Hinton was chosen as the county seat due to its location in the Greenbrier and New River valleys near the center of the county.

The newcomer to Summers County will find much that contributes to a satisfying and enjoyable way of life. The forested mountains and verdant valleys are lavish with their beauty at any time of year.

Hinton offers a favorable location within easy reach of many major cities, excellent rail and Interstate highway service, close proximity to coalfields and agricultural regions, plentiful power and water supplies, and available land for development of industrial sites at low cost. Above all, the people themselves are the region's greatest asset, industrious and proud of their heritage and their strong will to achieve.
